So, July 5th, Loch Eribol to Loch Inver - a long cruise taking us around another fearsome cape, Cape Wrath, where weather conditions often live up to it's name. The pilot book says, ominously, that if there is any sign of breaking water, pass the point at least 5 miles offshore. Fortunately, we had a calm day, although the long Atlantic swell was rolling in with 4-5 metres between peak and trough, which mad it feel like real ocean travelling. Birds were everywhere, Cape Wrath is a huge sanctuary and breeding ground. The Skua is graceful but one of natures less amiable characters - it follows other birds and harasses them until they drop the fish they have just caught, or even throw up their last meal, so that the Skua can feast without having to catch anything itself.  Posted by Picasa
